SkyDogCon follow-up

SkyDogCon follow-up

Alrighty then!

So we spent the 25th through the 28th of October in Nashville for SkyDogCon. Hell of an event!

I’ve been going to cons for a long time. I remember the first HOPE. Well, at least parts of it. I grew up in the con scene, and you guys know that over the years the con scene has grown too. Defcon is massive! And so much fun, but sometimes I’d miss how it was “back in the day”. After going to SkyDogCon, I’ve been reminded that that regional con feel wasn’t just something from back in the day, it’s here and now.

What’s really good about the small cons now is that the scene has matured along with all of us greybeards. The quality of the people and talks is just flat out amazing. ShortGrrl and I had a blast.

We were honored to spend some of our time helping “hack the badge” to get them working so they could be passed out to attendees. Beer, solder fumes, my Grrl by my side, old friends and new — what could be better?

Some topics of some of my favorite talks: spear phishing, hackers as entrepreneurs, new ways of hacking the Enigma, DIY UAVs. It was all good stuff.

Some shout outs: SkyDog and MrsSkyDog and all the folks who helped make it happen. Winn, GMark, Deviant, F0z, Mudflap, Bob, Noid, Adrian, KC, Sachin, Ben. These folks are complete badass, love talking, thinking, drinking and doing with you guys. The “never ending dinner party” Saturday night before the official con party (with live music by Dualcore!) was classic. It’s incredible to be with folks who can intelligently discuss low noise printed circuit board design, pros and cons of fiat currency and what’s more dangerous: zombies or vampires.

If you missed it, you suck. And don’t worry too much, make it next year!
