Inside a Keycard Activated Hotel Door Lock

One summer I attended two conferences in a row; Defcon in Vegas and right before that a conference in Phoenix done every year by a major microcontroller vendor. Can you guess which one was nerdy, polo-shirted, and share-holder approved near boring? Though the corporate one is at a super posh resort. High dollar, open bar, good sushi, excellent service and food, and hot spoiled girls in bikinis. Hey, a little attention to set dressing never hurts.
Anyway, the electronic door lock on my room was hosed. The hotel maintenance guy ended up replacing it. I had some work to do so I could handle the half an hour wait in my room. In addition to getting some work done, I grabbed a few pics of the inside of one of these.
So here’s the basic inside of the door lock. Battery pack up top, and potted electronics below.
Here’s a close up of the potted electronics.
And even closer showing the manufacturer’s markings on the module in the potting compound.
Sorry, no magic hacks or special infoz; just some interesting pix some of you guys out there will like.
